Why We Started Cultivated Accounting
Yvette Philip spent years leading the finance function for organizations with budgets up to $35 million, building the systems, reports, and financial strategy that let leadership teams make confident decisions. Along the way, she served on the boards of three nonprofits working in food insecurity and education, and saw the same story again and again: mission-driven organizations with real impact, held back not by lack of vision, but by lack of financial infrastructure.
The organizations doing some of the most important work in their communities were the ones least likely to have access to the financial expertise that larger, better-resourced organizations take for granted.
In 2023, Yvette founded and incorporated Cultivated Accounting to close that gap. We built the firm remote-first from day one, not as a convenience but as a commitment. Talent, financial expertise, and genuine partnership shouldn’t be limited by zip code. That decision means we now partner with small businesses and nonprofits across the country, bringing the same level of financial clarity and strategic insight to a growing network of organizations, wherever they are. Today, Cultivated Accounting is based in Massachusetts and serves mission-driven organizations across the United States, bringing the same level of financial clarity, rigor, and strategic partnership that well-funded organizations rely on. No in-house finance team required.
Smaller organizations are having a major impact on the local communities they serve; however, they don’t always have the support they need to be financially astute and prepared for future opportunities (funding, partnerships, etc.). They may be knowledgeable about what their organization does, and what they want their impact to look like, but they also might not consider how having sound financial management practices in place can help them get there.
Cultivated Accounting is both a verb and adjective. We actively work on accounting and financial management; we nurture the relationships we build with our clients. We are your partner, your gardener. We help you cultivate healthy financial systems so your organization can grow and reap a bountiful harvest, year after year.
“As a gardener,” says Yvette, “I am often reminded that what you tend will grow, and you can’t afford to skip steps. You have to have great soil, you have to water your plants, you have to ensure they get the proper amount of sun, etc. It’s all a reflection of what people and the nonprofits and businesses we run need in life to thrive.”

Yvette Philip
Owner & Operator
Yvette Philip is a Massachusetts Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with experience in finance and accounting across diverse sectors. Yvette holds a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Finance and Accounting and a Master of Science in Accountancy from Bentley College.
Yvette is a Boston native with deep roots in her community, and is passionate about empowering nonprofits and small businesses to achieve their financial goals. Yvette currently serves as a board or committee member on three nonprofit boards: Boston Latin School Association, Gaining Ground, and The Teachers' Lounge.
Prior to starting Cultivated Accounting, Yvette held the position of inaugural Director for Finance and Administration at the Scratch Foundation where she led the formation of financial and operational management for the organization; collaborating across teams to create a budget planning process, implement financial and expense management systems, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
While working in education, Yvette served as the Chief Financial Officer at Brooke Charter Schools, a K-12 charter school network in the Greater Boston area. There, she developed and implemented financial and operational strategies to meet the unique needs of each school campus, ensuring financial sustainability and maximizing resources for student success.
Yvette's experience also includes working as a Senior Financial Analyst at Liberty Mutual and as an Audit Senior at Deloitte and Touche. She began her career in the nonprofit sector after completing a data analyst fellowship with Education Pioneers in 2014.
During her spare time, Yvette enjoys outdoor activities, such as tennis, yoga, biking, hiking, and running. She also values spending time traveling, gardening, reading, and connecting with family and friends.
Masha Stine
Accountant
Masha Stine is an accountant at Cultivating Accounting and specializes in providing superior customer service and architecting automated workflow solutions. Masha’s work has always been rooted in empowering her community through partnership and education; and after a decade of teaching high school math, she decided to pivot and joined the accounting profession in 2024. She holds a B.S. in Hospitality Administration from Boston University, a Master of Education from Loyola Marymount University and a Master of Accounting from Merrimack College.
Masha has worked primarily with small and medium-sized organizations in professional services, biotech and non-profit spaces. She is a QBO ProAdvisor and has experience with multiple platforms including Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, and Expensify. She works mainly in the Appscript environment and uses Zapier, Google Cloud, and similar tools to create personalized workflow systems. Masha is also working toward her full stack developer certification and is learning her first programming language: JavaScript!
Masha receives the most joy from developing relationships with our clients and creating accounting solutions that help their businesses thrive. Whether it’s helping start-ups organize their bookkeeping, strategizing with a client to optimize their Accounts Payable workflow, or creating a month-end dashboard so clients can stay on track, Masha doesn’t only ask, “What can we do to help?”, she’s also asking: “Tell me more about your business: What do you need?”.
Outside of the nine to five, Masha is an active community member. She volunteers annually with her VITA tax assistance site where they help clients save thousands of dollars every tax season. Masha also runs a local cook book club, bringing together community members over food and shared passions.
Adel Lynch
Administrative Assistant
Adel Lynch keeps the operational and administrative side of Cultivated Accounting running smoothly by building and maintaining our systems and SOPs, managing client and team onboarding, supporting recruitment, overseeing our CRM and contracts, and staying on top of the day-to-day details that keep the team moving. She brings nearly ten years of remote operations experience across various industries, including insurance, digital marketing, and business coaching, often as second-in-command to a founder or CEO.
Adel thinks in systems, sees the whole picture, and catches the small things before they become big problems. While her deepest expertise is in operations rather than accounting, she’s comfortable in the finance-adjacent roles, such as running payroll, reconciling transactions, and working closely with bookkeepers and accountants to keep the numbers clean and organized.
Adel is precise, detail-oriented, and genuinely curious about how things work. She likes to fully understand a system before handing it off, and she’d rather build a lasting fix than implement a quick patch when something’s off. She keeps her communication clear and consistent because she believes people do better work when they’re not left guessing.
As a Guyanese living in Barbados, Adel brings a global, remote-first perspective to her work that mirrors Cultivated Accounting’s own approach.
Outside of the office, Adel enjoys singing and playing the piano, and is a lifelong creative writer with a stack of writing competition credits to her name. You can also find Adel either baking, experimenting with a new vegan recipe, cheering on the Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Tridents during CPL (cricket) season, or befriending her neighborhood cats.
